It's been a long time since I left you without a dope beat to step to

Apologies for the gap in posts, got busy with wedding planning, wedding events, honeymoon, summer fun and work. Now that we're back to bad weather and days filled with football, I seem to have more time for blogging. I'll quickly bring you up to speed on the exciting world of nj transit since I last posted:

1. One day as I was walking up the steps to the station platform (in my town) I noticed the steps no longer looked safe so I decided I would no longer use them. A week later they were covered in caution tape and condemned with a sign that said they would reopen at a to-be-determined later date. It has been at least six months.

2. One day my town's station announced that the elevator on the eastbound side was broken and if you needed to use the elevator the only option to get up to the station platform was to take a train on the westbound side to the next stop and come back on an eastbound train to get off on the correct platform. ...that's absolutely insane.

3. My town's station has repeatedly cancelled my 6:47 am train by announcing at 6:45 that the 6:47 is cancelled and the next train is at 7:12. awesome. really glad i left my apt an hour early.

4. I worked such long hours over the summer that the 6:47 conductor doesn't ask to see my ticket and the guys at Penn pizza know my order. I took the photo above at 6:35 on my way to the later cancelled 6:47. At least I had a pretty sunrise to look at while I cursed the world.

5. I rode the train with a 30-something guy who had an actual walkman on. i wanted to ask him if he didn't have the money for new technology, didn't care or was unaware that ipods existed. thought i might be able to blow his mind if he didn't know about ipods.

6. My commuting companions went from two to none thanks to changes in jobs and living situations.

7. a cafe opened across from the train station. every morning i walk by and no one goes in. it makes me really sad but at the same time i went in once and their food sucked so i won't go in again. i feel a little like it's my civic duty to let them know but i don't want to get all jerry seinfeld on them and accidently have them deported like babu.

Those are the main updates, i think. i look forward to blogging more regularly.

  1. Those are some great updates, especially the one about the Walkman. Let's hope NJ Transit continues to fail so we can hear more.

Let's also hope you end up sitting next to someone with a Game Boy and/or an original boom box.
